We believe that education is built through gathering. For this reason, this space invites administrators, area-leaders and teaching staff to reflect together on how to strengthen pedagogical practices through socio-emotional development and the teaching of a second language, thus building a more human, inclusive and transformative education.

Speakers

Jermaine McDougald

Bilingual educational leader (native English, U.S.) with a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and specializations in Educational Management and University Teaching. With over two decades of experience in high-level academic roles, I have served as Director of Business Development in ELT, IB Diploma Programme Coordinator, and Director of Language Centers at prestigious institutions such as Universidad de La Sabana and the British Council Colombia. My expertise spans bilingual education, curriculum design, teacher training, and educational technology, with a strong focus on international programs (IB, Cambridge IGCSE).

Karen Lorena Díaz García

Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages from Universidad del Atlántico. She is a Specialist in Pedagogical Studies and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Universidad de la Costa (CUC).

With extensive experience in both public and private education sectors, she has worked as an English teacher at institutions such as Colegio María Auxiliadora in Barranquilla and at a rural school in the municipality of Luruaco, Atlántico. Since 2019, she has been part of the teaching staff at IED Técnica Bilingüe Jorge Nicolás Abello, where she currently serves as a primary tutor teacher.

Her research interests center on emotional learning and early childhood education. Her Master’s thesis focused on socio-emotional learning through storytelling in preschool children, reflecting her commitment to fostering emotional intelligence and holistic development through language education.

Daniela Paola Polanco Márquez

is a Normalista Superior and Psychologist from Universidad de la Costa (CUC), holding a diploma in Organizational and Work Psychology. She completed a Master’s Degree in Neuropsychology and Education at Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (Spain). Her academic background has enabled her to integrate psychology, emotional education, and English language teaching across diverse educational contexts.

Since 2019, she has worked as an English teacher at different educational levels—basic, secondary, and higher education—serving institutions such as Universidad del Atlántico, Centro Cultural Colombo Americano, and Institución Universitaria de Barranquilla. She currently teaches primary-level English at IED Para el Desarrollo Humano María Cano and also serves as an English instructor at the Centro Cultural Colombo Americano.

Her teaching practice focuses on promoting meaningful language learning through the development of emotional intelligence and the holistic support of her students.

Jesús Alberto Mosquera De la Ossa

Teacher and researcher at the Centro Cultural Colombo Americano in Barranquilla, where he teaches General English courses, Conversation Clubs, and Business English. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education and Innovation at the Universidad de Investigación e Innovación de México (UIIX) and holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (UNIR).

His line of research focuses on the cultural fragmentation of Colombian students in the face of foreign linguistic references, within the field of educational innovation. He has developed projects related to the use of digital tools and the creation of short films as strategies for long-term vocabulary retention in English learning.

In addition, he is an active writer who has participated in several national literary contests.
